ThisNext -Concept Ring by Metamorphosis

I've wanted to feature items more often on my blog instead of purely focusing on my work, my shop, my life. I've met/found/encountered so many well-made, pretty things and awesomely talented, super-nice people who make them. My ThisNext page makes featuring easier.

This ring I found while link-hopping, a dangerous but often fruitful sport of the internet. It's by Metamorphosis. It's tough and industrial, but that little glinting rivet, fastening the blackened steel ring together, adds a softening touch. (via metamorphosis)

My brain is scattered and my eyes are tired. They sorta promoted me at work. I didn't really want it and it may just be temporary. So much of the workings of this job are flightly...for as structured as it may appear. Anyway.

Helped a friend move this week. Realized that getting stuff packed isn't the real hard part, it's getting the now-packed stuff out of the aparment/house. She lived on the third floor or a grand old Victorian accessible only by a two-level staircase and dumb waiter. Yeah. It's really cool the first time. You quickly want to just hurl boxes...and possibly even yourself, out of the window. Not to die, just 'cause
it would be faster.


I want to play with my camera. I've lost a lens cap already.
It's supposed to snow this weekend, so I'll be reading a lot. Crafting some I hope.

By Its Cover- Love and Other Near Death Experiences Pt. 1

By Its Cover is my completely independent 2-part book review column. Selections are made based entirely on the book's cover. I'm testing the old saying in my quest to find new authors.

Title: Love and Other Near Death Experiences
Author: Mil Millington

I worked with a guy named Mil once. He was Turkish, looked good in red, talked about laundering money, and was 6'5". I felt incredibly short next to him. Anyway, though it's probably a pen name, in this case, or I feel extraordinarily sad for the poor guy, I got it because of the author's name.

It's British pop-trendy near chick-lit. I can't imagine what guy would read it despite the fact that the main character is a guy. It's similar to the last book I reviewed, which I why I hesitated to use it, I do read more than fluff...or intended to. However the genre's flashy covers stand out in shelves of worn-spine classics.

So far, and this is no Yank-bias, Stupid and Contagious was better. These books are heavy on conversation, and it needs to be short and quirky. This lingers, the way a real convo would, but you don't want to read real convos. It fumbles a little in the prose areas, too. And it's not helped by the fact that I'm simul-reading Persuasion by Jane Austen.

New magnets in the shop. They're the first items photographed with my new camera. I'm still adjusting, I have a feeling I'll grow into over time. Hope to do some more tinkering tomorrow. :)

Happy New Year! You know I had to bust out with roman numerals, right? It was either that or binary code. hehe

I stayed up just till midnight, then conked out and slept until about 10am. Christmas prep and stuff tired me out. And tomorrow I go back to work, then tax temp job...so I need sleep, now.

I've been playing with my camera, tweeting and reading blogs. I don't yet have a clear plan for the year. Some things I want to do include:

Getting my driver's license...finally!
Finishing this book I started writing when I was 15.
Marketing the shop better
Getting an independent site up
Remember to enjoy the ride...only get to do this once.
